Personal Trainer Yeovil — What to Expect from 1-to-1 Coaching

If you've been thinking about working with a personal trainer in Yeovil but aren't sure what to expect, this post will give you an honest picture of what 1-to-1 coaching actually looks like — and whether it's the right fit for you.

No hard sell. Just a straight answer.

Who Personal Training is Actually For

There's a common misconception that personal trainers are only for people who are already fit, already motivated, or already know what they're doing in the gym. The reality is the opposite. The people who get the most out of 1-to-1 coaching are usually:

  • Complete beginners who don't know where to start and don't want to waste months figuring it out.
  • People who've been training inconsistently for years, and can't seem to make it stick.
  • Busy parents or shift workers whose schedule doesn't fit a standard programme.
  • Anyone who's tried plans before and found them too generic to follow in real life.
If any of those sound like you, coaching is worth considering.

What 1-to-1 Coaching at TN Fitness Looks Like

The Discovery Call

Everything starts with a free 20-minute call. No commitment, no pressure — just a conversation about where you are, what you want, and whether we're the right fit.

I'll ask about your goals, your current routine (or lack of one), your schedule, and anything that's got in the way before. You can ask me anything too.
If it makes sense to work together, we move forward. If it doesn't, I'll tell you honestly.

Your Personalised Plan

Once we've agreed to work together, I build your plan. Not a template with your name on it — an actual plan written around your goals, your schedule, and your starting point.

This covers:

  • Your training sessions — how many, when, what format (gym, home, or both)
  • Your nutrition — practical guidance that fits around your life, not a rigid meal plan you'll abandon by week two
  • Your targets — clear, realistic milestones so you know exactly what you're working towards

I usually have this ready within 48 hours.

Weekly Check-ins

Every week we review how things are going. What's working, what isn't, and what needs adjusting. Your plan evolves as you do — it's not set in stone from day one.

This is the part most people underestimate. Having someone who actually pays attention to your progress and adjusts accordingly makes an enormous difference to results.

Direct Access to Tom

Throughout your coaching, you have direct access to me — by message or email. If something comes up, you have a question, or you need to adjust the plan around something in your life, you don't wait days for a response.

I aim to reply within a few hours. Never days.

Why Yeovil?

I'm based at PureGym Yeovil and train clients there in person. I also coach online for people who prefer to train at home or whose schedule makes regular in-person sessions difficult.

Both work. The approach is the same either way — personalised, practical, and built around your actual life.

If you're local and want to train in person, PureGym Yeovil is where we'd be based. If you're further afield or prefer the flexibility of online coaching, that works just as well.

What Makes TN Fitness Different

There are plenty of personal trainers in Yeovil. Here's what sets the TN Fitness approach apart:

Qualifications that go beyond a basic PT cert. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science and a CIMSPA-accredited nutrition qualification. That means the advice I give on training and nutrition is grounded in actual science — not opinion or trends.

10 years as a professional chef. This is unusual for a fitness coach, and it matters more than it sounds. I understand food properly — not just macros on a spreadsheet, but how to cook it, how to make it practical, and how to build nutrition habits that actually fit around real life.

30+ years in rugby. Playing and coaching at a serious level for over three decades means I understand performance, recovery, and how the body responds to training from the inside out.

No intimidation. The gym can feel like an unwelcoming place if you're new to it. That's never the environment I want to create. Coaching at TN Fitness is supportive, straightforward, and honest — whatever your starting point.

How Long Does Coaching Last?

Most clients start with a 12-week block. That's enough time to build real habits, see measurable results, and understand your body well enough to keep progressing independently.

Some clients continue beyond 12 weeks. Some are ready to go it alone. Both are fine outcomes.

How Much Does it Cost?

Coaching investment is discussed on the discovery call based on your goals and what you need. The first call is completely free.

If you're not ready for 1-to-1 coaching, the  TN Fitness 12-Week Programme  is a self-guided alternative at £49.99 — written with the same principles and built for the same kind of person.
